REA Group has named Steve Maidment as its new Chief Technology Officer and a member of the Group's executive leadership team.

Maidment joins from Toronto-based marketplace Autotrader.ca, where he has served as Senior Vice-President and Chief Digital Officer since 2018, and is set to start his new role in October.

He previously held positions in Australia including General Manager for Digital Channels at Australia Post and Chief Digital Officer at Melbourne-based CrownBet.

Maidment replaces acting CTO Craig Templeton who stepped in for Chris Venter who was forced into medical leave after suffering a serious accident last year. Templeton will return to his previous role as Chief Information Security Officer and General Manager of Technology and Data Platforms upon Maidment's arrival.

Owen Wilson, CEO at REA Group, said:

"I’m delighted to welcome Steve to REA Group. I look forward to his contribution which will continue to accelerate our technology capabilities, ensuring our business remains at the forefront of innovation. Steve’s experience in implementing transformative technology strategies that deliver high-performing digital products and platforms will undoubtedly result in significant business value for REA.

"I would also like to thank Chris Venter and acknowledge his contribution to REA. He will be missed by all of us. It has been an extremely difficult time for Chris and his family, and our thoughts and best wishes remain with him during his recovery. I would also like to thank Craig Templeton for stepping into the role for the past 10 months. Our Tech community consistently delivered on our technology strategy under both Chris and Craig’s leadership and I’m grateful for their efforts."

Maidment said:

"I am thrilled to join an exceptionally high-performing technology team within one of Australia's foremost digital companies. I have always admired REA Group’s culture. I eagerly look forward to making my own mark on this dynamic environment and collectively achieving remarkable milestones together."
