Fotocasa, one of the leading real estate portals in Spain, has launched "Proyecto Vivienda"—a housing initiative aimed at tackling ongoing housing issues in Spain.

The initiative focuses on housing problems facing young people in Spain, including rising rental prices, low supply and high inflation.

Fotocasa identified people under the age of 35, single-parent families and depopulated areas in rural Spain as key targets for the project. The company points to a housing market supply drop of 30% since the pandemic as being a driver of housing difficulties in Spain.

The portal has launched a helpline for struggling renters looking for housing options, and will also work with public administrations and organisations that share similar objectives around Spain's housing industry,

Anaïs García, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations at Fotocasa, said:

"We have always been by the side of people in one of the most important journeys of their lives, which is finding a home. For more than 15 years we have been offering transparent and reliable information on the evolution of the market so that citizens can make their own decisions.

"However, in times of so much uncertainty, we believe that it is not enough, and we must go one step further. The most important thing is that this project that begins today is an example of the company's values and principles, and will be consolidated year after year as a point of support for society. We are strongly committed to this and we want to be at the side of citizens when they need it most.

"At a time when social responsibility must be joint, we must all take sides. For this reason, in addition to aid to different groups, we plan to join forces with the public powers and value the collaboration of private agents, because for us, the Housing Project is a priority."
